Ryan Sweeney is staying with the Chicago Cubs after agreeing to a $3.5 million, two-year contract that includes a club option for 2016.
The outfielder posted Tuesday on Twitter that he's "so excited to be back in Chicago" and thanked the organization and fans for believing in him.
A person familiar with the situation says Sweeney is due $1.5 million in 2014 and 2015, with the Cubs holding a $2.5 million option for 2016 with a $500,000 buyout. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced.
Sweeney batted .266 with six homers and 19 RBIs in 70 games this season. He spent time on the 60-day disabled list because of a broken rib after he crashed into a wall in late June.
