Sveum to get 2nd interview with BoSox
As the Red Sox and Cubs interviewed many of the same candidates for manager, the possibility existed that they would end up trying to hire the same guy.
The possibility is growing stronger.
Brewers hitting coach Dale Sveum is scheduled for a second interview with the Red Sox this week, according to major league sources.
Sveum will meet with Sox general manager Ben Cherington and ownership representatives at the GM/owners’ meetings in Milwaukee.
However, he remains high on the Cubs’ list, sources say.
The Red Sox expect to talk again with at least one more candidate besides Sveum this week, one source said.
The Cubs have interviewed three candidates in addition to Sveum – Mackanin, Alomar and Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux.
Former Red Sox manager Terry Francona, who was beaten out for the Cardinals’ job by Mike Matheny on Sunday, is not currently under consideration by the Cubs, sources say.
