VIERA, Fla. (AP) Stephen Strasburg threw three solid innings in his second spring training start as the Washington Nationals defeated the New York Mets 9-5 on Friday.

Strasburg gave up one run on three hits. The only ball that was struck solidly was a lead-off double by former Washington teammate Roger Bernadina in the third inning. Bernadina would score on a ground ball up the middle by Juan Lagares.

New York starter Steven Matz gave up three runs in two-plus innings of work.

Washington closer Jonathan Papelbon, who was sent home sick on Thursday, struggled with his control and gave up four runs (three earned) in the ninth before being removed by manager Dusty Baker.
