Stephen Drew could miss rest of Yankees' season

New York Yankees infielder Stephen Drew hasn't played in a game since September 22, hasn't started since September 15, and could be shut down for the rest of the season due to a mysterious illness.

After Drew was hit in the face by a ground ball September 9, he has been experiencing dizziness and the team hasn't quite been able to figure out exactly what's wrong with him.

“We haven’t seen really any improvement for these 10 days,” manager Joe Girardi said via Daniel Popper of the New York Daily News. “I don’t know what’s going to turn it around.”

This has been frustrating for Drew, as the Yankees are making a playoff push and currently sit in the first spot in the wild card standings. He could miss the rest of the season, but getting healthy is his priority.

“It’s kind of disheartening,” Drew said. “But at the same time, I’ve got to kind of get this thing under control and that’s the No.1 goal and go from there.”

In his absence, the team will rely on a combination of Rob Refsnyder and Dustin Ackley at second base.

Ackley, acquired at the trade deadline from the Seattle Mariners, has been hot of late, hitting .333 with four homers and nine RBI since September 12.

On the season, Drew has appeared in 131 games, batting .201 with 17 home runs and 44 RBI.
