Starlin Castro reflects on time with Cubs, thanks fans
Former Chicago Cubs infielder Starlin Castro took some time to reflect on his six seasons with the ball club in a letter posted to The Players' Tribune.
Castro, a former top prospect of the Cubs, was traded to the New York Yankees for pitcher Adam Warren and Brendan Ryan earlier in the offseason by Chicago.
Castro started his career with the Cubs as the touted future at shortstop entering the league at just 20-years-old. Over the years, however, he struggled off and on, eventually leading to a demotion at shortstop. He did managed to make a comeback winning the starting job at second base late in the 2015 season, helping the Cubs eventually run in the playoffs.
Along with his own personal struggles in his still-young career, Castro touched on what it meant to him to see the highs and lows the Cubs as a team experience in their eventual rise 2015's 97-win playoff season.
Of course, Castro made sure to acknowledge the Chicago faithful who came out to support the Cubs at Wrigley Field daily.
Despite the new challenge that comes along with being traded from the only club Castro has known, he is looking forward to being a member of the Yankees.
The Cubs and Yankees are schedule to play one another in 2016, but Castro is hoping his old club can meet his new club in October.
Castro's letter can be seen in its entirety on The Players' Tribune.
