St. Louis adds switch-hitting catcher Brayan Pena

CINCINNATI (AP) The St. Louis Cardinals activated switch-hitting catcher Brayan Pena from the 60-day disabled list and promoted rookie catcher Carson Kelly from Triple-A Memphis.

St. Louis designated Memphis infielder Dean Anna for assignment to make room for Kelly and transferred pitcher Seth Maness (right elbow) from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Left knee inflammation has limited the 34-year-old Pena to just four games this season. He batted a combined .286 (8-for-28) with one home run and eight RBIs in nine combined games with Single-A Palm Beach and the Gulf Coast League Cardinals during a recent injury rehabilitation assignment.

Kelly, the Cardinals second-round draft selection in 2012, will make his major league debut.
