Sources: Twins closing in on Pavano

The Minnesota Twins are closing in a two-year contract with free-agent starting pitcher Carl Pavano, major-league sources told FOXSports.com.

As of Friday afternoon, the sides were still discussing particulars but moving toward a deal, one source said.

Pavano has a preference to remain with the Twins, for whom he has pitched since arriving from Cleveland in an August 2009 trade. Pavano is coming off perhaps his finest all-around season, in which he went 17-11 for the Twins with a 3.75 ERA.

At this point, Pavano is the top starter available on the free-agent market.
