Free agent Xavier Nady is expected to sign a one-year contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks, a major-league source confirmed to FOXSports.com.
The Arizona Republic first reported on its web site that Nady was close to agreeing on a contract with the Diamondbacks. Nady will receive a $1.75 million base salary with $1 million in incentives.
The source indicated that Nady, 32, is likely to play first base or left field next season. He played mostly first base and right field for the Chicago Cubs in 2010, batting .256 with six home runs and 33 RBI in 119 games.
Nady will reunite with Arizona general manager Kevin Towers, who was the San Diego GM when the Padres selected Nady in the second round of the 2000 amateur draft.
