Sanchez's MRI reveals strain

Published Apr. 29, 2012 1:14 a.m. ET

Giants second baseman Freddy Sanchez has a strain in his right shoulder, a minor setback in his recovery from surgery last season.

Sanchez, who has been on the disabled list all season, underwent an MRI on Friday in the Bay Area but the team didn't disclose the results until before Saturday's home game against the San Diego Padres.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said he was encouraged by the test results and said the team will have Sanchez rest a few days before resuming his rehab.

Sanchez had been playing for the Giants' Class-A team in San Jose when felt a shooting sensation in his shoulder during pre-game warmups.
