Sabathia hits Ortiz, Yankees and Red Sox warned

Yankees ace CC Sabathia hit Red Sox slugger David Ortiz squarely in the thigh with a 97 mph fastball Wednesday night, prompting the plate umpire to warn New York and Boston against further trouble.

Umpire Hunter Wendelstedt pointed at both dugouts after Ortiz was hit with a first-pitch heater in the fourth inning.

Boston star Josh Beckett already had plunked two batters by that point in a game that started after a rain delay of nearly 3 1/2 hours. Beckett hit Derek Jeter near the elbow with his second pitch of the game, then nailed Alex Rodriguez around the hip in the third inning.

Ortiz, who has never been hit by a Yankees pitcher in 162 games, slowly walked to first base after being drilled. In the fifth, Beckett hit Curtis Granderson, who homered earlier, in the left foot with a breaking ball and no trouble ensued.
