The Kansas City Royals dropped to 70-66 by losing 6-5 on Sunday night. This brutal 2-4 homestand saw the Kansas City bullpen blow three late-inning leads. Their string of failure turned what could have been a key run of wins against playoff rivals into critical defeats. KC’s playoff hopes are on life support once again.

The KC Royals rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the seventh inning to seize a 5-4 lead.

Eric Hosmer started off the rally with a walk. Kendrys Morales singled to put runners at first and second. Detroit puledl starter Daniel Norris in favor of reliever AJ Wilson. Salvador Perez walked to load the bases before Whit Merrifield drove a sacrifice fly to deep center to score Hosmer.

Tigers center fielder Tyler Collins inexplicably threw to third base, allowing runner to advance to second and third. Alcides Escobar lined out to Miguel Cabrera. But, Jarrod Dyson came through with a triple to drive in both tying runs. Alex Gordon pinch hit for Raul Mondesi and the Tigers chose to walk him in favor of pitching to Paulo Orlando.

Shane Greene replace Wilson and Orlando stroke a double to left to score Dyson to put the Kansas City Royals ahead 5-4.

Unfortantely, Justin Upton slammed a two-out home run with a man on to put the TIgers up 6-5 against KC Royals reliever Joakim Soria. The pathetic Royals offense got a leadoff double from Jarrod Dyson in the ninth, but failed to score him from third base with only one out.

This brutal series against the Tigers saws the Kansas City bullpen fail to hold two late-inning leads, after blowing another game against the Yankees. Their failure has put the Royals playoff hopes in crisis mode once again.
