Royals' Duffy leaves game in 4th with injury

Published Jun. 19, 2011 9:24 p.m. ET

Kansas City Royals rookie left-hander Danny Duffy left Sunday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals in the fourth inning with leg cramps.

With two outs and the game tied at 2, Duffy (1-2) left after giving up a two-out single to Pete Kozma. On the previous pitch before the hit, Duffy appeared to have pulled something as he walked behind the mound and bent over.

The Royals announced in the sixth inning that Duffy experienced cramping in his left calf.

Duffy threw 90 pitches, 56 for strikes. He allowed six hits with a career-best nine strikeouts and one walk in 3 2-3 innings. The other two Cardinals outs came on a flyout and a ground ball.
