Rockies praised for picks in 2015 MLB Draft
Just because the Colorado Rockies had the third overall pick plus another first round pick didn’t guarantee that the team would have a good Draft. Multiple sources though consider the Rockies as being one of the winners in this year’s Draft. MLB.com’s Jim Callis, who ranked the team second behind the Houston Astros, writes:
Lake Mary (Fla.) High shortstop Brendan Rodgers, the No. 3 overall pick and MLBPipeline's top-rated prospect, has 20-plus homer potential and solid tools across the board. … Stroudsburg (Pa.) High's Mike Nikorak fell into the Rockies' lap at No. 27 despite his obvious athleticism and the makings of a mid-90s fastball and a plus curveball.
Sports Illustrated also highlighted the Astros and Rockies as teams which stood out. David Rawnsley of SI also pointed to Rodgers and Nivorak as well as another prep right-handed pitcher, Peter Lambert.
Unfortunately, the fact that these picks were all drafted out of high school means that it may be a while until this crop is playing at Coors Field.
