DENVER (AP) The Colorado Rockies claimed right-handed pitcher Gonzalez Germen off waivers from the Chicago Cubs and assigned him to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday.

To make room for Germen on the 40-man roster the Rockies have transferred first baseman Justin Morneau to the 60-day disabled list.

Germen appeared in six games with the Cubs this season. He was originally signed by the New York Mets out of Guaymate, Dominican Republic, in 2007 and made his major league debut in 2013. Germen was 1-2 with a 4.31 ERA in 54 appearances with the Mets from 2013-14.

Morneau was placed on the seven-day concussion list on May 16 and transferred to the 15-day DL on May 29. He is hitting .290 in 27 games.
