Wilin Rosario followed a terrible night at the plate with one of the best of his career.
Rosario had a career-high four hits and drove in three runs, leading the Colorado Rockies over the Padres 9-5 Saturday night.
Rosario broke a 1-1 tie in the second with his fourth home run of the season, a two-run drive off Edison Volquez (0-3). Rosario made it 5-1 with an RBI single in the third, singled off Thad Weber leading off the fifth and singled off Joe Thatcher in the ninth.
A night earlier, Rosario was 0 for 4 with three strikeouts.
''Some days you come to the plate and maybe your mind is not on the field,'' Rosario said. ''I don't want to say that's why I was 0 for 4 yesterday and today 4 for 5. Sometimes you're good; sometimes you're not. Today I was seeing the ball really well.''
Jhoulys Chacin (2-0) allowed two runs and four hits in five innings, his ERA rising from 1.35 to 1.96. He threw 83 pitches to beat the Padres for the second time this season and improve Colorado to 5-0 against San Diego.
''It's really nice to be able to win a game when you're not pitching that well,'' Chacin said. ''I wasn't getting much movement on my fast ball and I got behind too many hitters. But with our offense you might be able to give up even four runs and still win.''
Chacin extended the Rockies' streak of consecutive games without a 100-pitch start to 113.
''Chacin put us in position to win again,'' Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. ''He labored a bit and was working hard to get through that one.''
Padres starter Edison Volquez gave up seven runs - six earned - six hits and three walks in 3 1-3 innings, leaving him with an 11.68 ERA. San Diego's fourth straight loss dropped the Padres to 2-9.
''Over the course of 33 starts, you're going to have some rough ones,'' Padres manager Bud Black said. ''Volky has had them right out of the get go. Let's hope that he can get it straightened out. It's the ball-strike ratio, pitching ahead in the count.''
San Diego's Carlos Quentin, on the active roster while the players' union appeals his eight-game suspension stemming from Thursday's brawl with Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke, popped out to the catcher as a pinch-hitter in the eighth with runners on second and third and one out.
Michael Cuddyer hit a two-run homer in the fourth off Weber, giving the Rockies a major league-leading 15 on the road this season. Carlos Gonzalez had three hits and a walk, and Troy Tulowitzki had two hits and two RBIs.
Todd Helton hit an RBI double in the third, tying Ivan Rodriguez for 20th on the career list with 572 doubles.
San Diego's Everth Cabrera tied his career high with four hits, including a triple and home run in the seventh off Edgmer Escalona. Will Venable homered off Escalona later in the inning.
With the chance to become the first Padres player to hit for the cycle, Cabrera singled in the ninth.
The Padres have been one hit away from the cycle 344 times in their 45-year history.

Padres 3B Chase Headley had a double in three at-bats on Friday at Class-A Lake Elsinore on an injury rehabilitation assignment after breaking his left thumb. ''It felt great,'' Headley said. I was real happy with the way I swung the bat, I got jammed and it didn't hurt.'' He is to return to Lake Elsinore on Sunday and play in the field. Headley was in San Diego to receive his Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards from last season.
