RHP Joaquin Benoit reinstated from DL by Mariners
BALTIMORE (AP) The Seattle Mariners have activated right-handed reliever Joaquin Benoit from the disabled list after he missed nearly a month with a shoulder injury.
Benoit was expected to be in the bullpen for Tuesday night's game against the Orioles.
The 38-year-old Benoit was placed on the DL on April 22 with shoulder inflammation. He's 1-0 with two holds and a 3.60 ERA in five appearances.
Benoit pitched in a simulated game Saturday and came out ''with a little flare up,'' according to Seattle manager Scott Servais, but it was not enough to keep him on the disabled list.
Benoit came to the Mariners in a three-player trade with San Diego in November.
Right-hander Mayckol Guaipe was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma to make room for Benoit on the 25-man roster.
