Reports: Tigers' Verlander will begin season on disabled list

Detroit Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander will begin the 2015 regular season on the disabled list because of a triceps injury, according to multiple reports Thursday morning.

According to MLB.com, Verlander will come off the DL the first day he is eligible and start April 12 against the Cleveland Indians.

On Wednesday, FOX Sports Insider Jon Morosi reported Verlander has been diagnosed with a "slight strain" and isn't expected to miss much time.

Verlander, who never had been on the DL in his 10-season major-league career, had been scheduled to pitch the second game of the regular season.

The 2011 AL MVP and AL Cy Young Award winner last pitched March 27 and already had been scratched from his final Grapefruit League start because of the discomfort.

In five starts this spring, Verlander is 1-1 with a 5.63 ERA. He has struck out 10 and walked six in 16 innings.
