Report: Rangers edging Dodgers in bid for Phillies ace Cole Hamels

BY foxsports • July 27, 2015

As more potential suitors enter the conversation about Philadelphia Phillies lefty ace Cole Hamels, there are two that have been neck and neck at the front of the line for the premier starter since the beginning.

According to CBS Sports, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Texas Rangers are still seen as the biggest players in the quest to land Hamels, who is seen as the best top-tier starter on the trade market.

The report details that the Rangers have a "slight advantage at the moment [over the Dodgers], but people connected to the Rangers don't seem overly confident they will land the ace left-hander."

The Dodgers' insistence to hold on to top prospects Julio Urias and Corey Seager has been a reported snag in their ability to land a top starter on the free-agent market, of which they are in dire need after losing starters Hyun-Jin Ryu and Brandon McCarthy to season-ending injuries early in the season.

L.A.'s inability to land Johnny Cueto, who was traded from the Cincinnati Reds to the Kansas City Royals over the weekend, might force the team to reassess their strategy in regard to their top prospects, as the team knows it needs a starter in order to make a deep run in the postseason.
