Report: Prospect Domingo Santana joining Astros on Tuesday

Published Jun. 16, 2015 1:06 a.m. ET

The Houston Astros are dipping into their rich farm system once again, as outfielder Domingo Santana will be called up in time for Tuesday night's game against the Colorado Rockies.

The news came out on Monday, as Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reported that Santana was 'on his way' to joining the club.

After the Astros beat Colorado, Drellich followed it up with an official announcement, noting that Santana will replace Colby Rasmus on the 25-man roster (as Rasmus will be placed on the bereavement list):

This won't be Santana's Major League debut, as he was up briefly in 2014. He went hitless in 17 official at-bats over six games, striking out 14 times and walking once.

So far in 2015, the 22-year-old was off to a blazing start with Triple-A Fresno, slashing .320/.444/.584, so perhaps he's ready for Major League pitching this time around.
