Report: Phillies, Dodgers having open dialogue about Cole Hamels
As the trade deadline looms two weeks away, the Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly discussing a deal for lefty ace Cole Hamels.
According to CBS Sports, the Phillies and Dodgers have "quietly continued having dialogue" about Hamels, who has been the subject of trade rumors for over a year, and has previously been linked to a potential trade with the Dodgers.
The report quotes an anonymous general manager as saying that the Phillies "have come off their request of 'four or five' big prospects for Hamels," which would make a deal with the Dodgers more probable.
While Philadelphia reportedly had previously requested that the Dodgers deal one or both of their two top prospects, pitcher Julio Urias and shortstop Corey Seager, in exchange for Hamels, the report says that the teams are considering other possibilities.
"Rivals all seem to agree that Seager and Urias are too good to trade," the report reads, "and further suggested that the Dodgers' system is deep enough to land Hamels, anyway."
