Report: Mets place Dillon Gee on waivers after failing to trade him

Published Jun. 22, 2015 4:51 a.m. ET

The New York Mets apparently haven't found any takers for starter Dillon Gee, and have reportedly placed him on waivers.

According to ESPN.com, Gee has been placed on outright waivers by the team with the intention of sending him to Triple-A.

If the righty is not claimed, he will clear waivers on Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET.

He could potentially refuse assignment to the minors and declare free agency if he clears waivers, but he would then have to forfeit the remaining $3.1 million owed to him by the Mets this season.

Gee was originally designated for assignment by the Mets on June 15 after a rough spot start against the Braves.
