Report: Jays' Cabrera back to DL

Published Aug. 2, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed left fielder Melky Cabrera on the disabled list after he re-aggravated his left knee injury in Thursday night’s game, MLB.com reports.

"His knee flared up," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons told MLB.com. "He'll go on the DL and get an MRI tomorrow. It's probably similar to what he had last time."

Cabrera was on the DL from June 28 through July 20 with a similar injury.

And the injury isn’t even the chief concern for Cabrera or the Blue Jays going forward. He is among the players who could be suspended for possible ties to the Biogenesis clinic, which is being investigation by Major League Baseball for allegedly selling performance-enhancing drugs to multiple major leaguers.

Cabrera, then with the San Francisco Giants, served a 50-game suspension last season after testing positive for elevated levels of testosterone.

The 2012 All-Star Game MVP has seen his numbers drop dramatically this season. After hitting .346/.390/.516 with 11 homers and 60 RBIs in 113 games last season, Cabrera is batting .279/.322/.360 with three homers and 30 RBIs in 88 games this season.
