Report: Giants ask CEO to stand down

San Francisco Giants managing general partner and chief executive officer Bill Neukom has been asked to stand down from his role by the executive committee of the team's ownership group, the San Jose Mercury News reported Wednesday, citing sources.

Neukom has been at the helm for three years, in which time the Giants won the 2010 World Series — but he will reportedly not be in the job in 2012 after an apparent fallout with the committee that stems from a string of disagreements.

Giants president and chief operating officer Larry Baer is set to take over Neukom's duties, the sources said, while Neukom would "voluntarily" assume another position with the organization.

According to the report, it is believed the executive committee took exception to Neukom making a number of financial decisions without properly informing the group, with some owners first finding out about the moves via news reports.

It was unclear when exactly Neukom would be stepping down from the role.
