The Cincinnati Reds recalled Zach Duke from Triple-A Louisville to add a left-hander to their bullpen.

Right-hander Nick Christiani was optioned to Louisville to make room for Duke, who was signed to a minor league contract by the Reds after being released in June by the Washington Nationals.

In another move, the Reds designated right-handed pitcher Justin Freeman for assignment.

Christiani pitched 1 1-3 scoreless innings in one game for Reds. Duke was 2-0 with a 1.36 ERA and two saves in 26 games for Louisville.
