Reds put pitchers Bailey, Marshall on DL before opening day
CINCINNATI -- The Reds put starter Homer Bailey on the 15-day disabled list and left-handed reliever Sean Marshall on the 60-day DL to open roster spots on Sunday, a day before their season opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Bailey is expected to miss one or two starts while recovering from forearm surgery last September. His DL assignment is retroactive to March 27. Marshall has been limited by recurring shoulder problems.
The Reds also put outfielder Jason Bourgeois on the 60-day disabled list with a broken shoulder.
Cincinnati added starter Jason Marquis, reliever Kevin Gregg, infielder Chris Dominguez and outfielder Brennan Boesch to the 25-man roster for opening day. Marquis was on a minor league deal but won a spot in the starting rotation.
