The Cincinnati Reds have placed shortstop Paul Janish on the bereavement list so he could attend his grandmother's funeral near Houston.
The Reds filled his spot by calling up infielder Drew Sutton from Triple-A Louisville. Sutton was batting .268 with two homers and 16 RBIs at Louisville, where he had a seven-game hitting streak intact.
The 26-year-old Sutton made his debut with the Reds last season, batting .212 in 42 games with one homer and nine RBIs. He can play first, second and third base, and in the outfield.
Janish is the backup to starting shortstop Orlando Cabrera. He's batting .276 in 17 games.
