You don’t think of “sports mascot” as the kind of job where you get hazard pay — but the world is changing and is now a place where getting choked out by a fan is a realistic possibility.
For proof, we present Raymond, the Tamba Bay Rays mascot. Raymond was working during Tuesday's game against the Boston Red Sox when, according to Boston.com, a 27-year-old Trevor Martin grabbed Raymond around the neck and pulled him toward a railing. Witnesses told police Martin was visibly intoxicated, slurring his speech and staggering about. He told police he had two beers.
Raymond didn’t file any charges, but St. Petersburg, Fla. police did, arresting Martin for disorderly intoxication in a public place.
