During the eighth inning of Wednesday's Rays-Nats game, Tampa Bay outfielder Steven Souza Jr. laid down a bunt, but Washington could not complete the easy out at first base—nor could they control what happened next: a successful “Little League home run."
Pitcher Blake Treinen sailed the throw to first, which afforded David DeJesus to make it around the bases and Souza Jr. to reach third.
Then, Washington right fielder Bryce Harper’s ill-fated attempt to nab DeJesus at the plate ended up in the dugout. As a result, Souza Jr. was awarded home for a ball out of play.
Instead of the Nats ending the inning, Tampa Bay took a 5-0 lead and won by that score.
