Rays, Indians play after long rain delays

After nearly five hours of rain delays, the Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Indians have resumed playing their Friday night game on Saturday.

The game, which was scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m., finally resumed at 12:13 a.m. - 2 hours, 39 minutes after the third rain delay. Before that there was uncertainty, confusion and, of course, rain.

The teams were delayed a total of 4:49 - and played just 16 minutes.

With a forecast for heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday, the umpires figured they had to try to get in one game with the possibility the whole weekend could get washed out. The teams aren't scheduled to meet again this season.

Rays starter Matt Moore remained unbeaten. The left-hander, who was trying to become the majors' first nine-game winner, pitched one scoreless inning. Cleveland's Corey Kluber made it through two hitless innings before the game was stopped for a third time.

On Thursday night, the Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals were delayed an hour before the first pitch and another 4 hours, 32 minutes by rain.
