Rangers put Napoli on DL with left oblique strain

Published Jun. 12, 2011 3:48 p.m. ET

The Texas Rangers have placed catcher and first baseman Mike Napoli on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained oblique muscle on his left side.

The Rangers made the move before Sunday's game at Minnesota. Catcher Taylor Teagarden was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock to take Napoli's place, and he was to join the team in time to play against the Twins if needed. Yorvit Torrealba was in the lineup at catcher.

Napoli has been bothered by the injury for the past few days. He aggravated it during Saturday's game, when he was the catcher and went 1 for 3 with a run scored. He's hitting .221 with 10 homers and 25 RBIs in 136 at-bats.

Teagarden has been called up from the minors seven times in the last four seasons, including three times this year.
