ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) Colby Lewis of the Texas Rangers has lost a bid for a perfect game on a leadoff double by Oakland's Danny Valencia in the eighth inning.

The Rangers lead 4-0 Friday night.

Lewis got a standing ovation from the home crowd after Valencia's line drive near the line in left field.

The 21 straight hitters retired by the 36-year-old right-hander were the most for a Texas pitcher since Yu Darvish retired the first 26 in Houston on April 2, 2013. Marwin Gonzalez singled to break up that perfect game.

Lewis, who was 0-3 with an 8.62 ERA in his previous three starts, needs one victory for a career-high 15.
