Rangers grant free agency to INF Quintanilla

Published Sep. 3, 2011 2:04 p.m. ET

Infielder Omar Quintanilla has been granted free agency by the Texas Rangers after declining an outright assignment to the minor leagues.

The Rangers announced the decision Saturday, two days after they had outrighted Quintanilla to Triple-A Round Rock.

Quintanilla was sent out after Texas activated All-Star third baseman Adrian Beltre and utility infielder Andres Blanco from the disabled list.

Quintanilla appeared in 11 games with the Rangers after being purchased from Round Rock on July 8. He was 1 for 22 with two RBIs.

Quintanilla is a .213 hitter in 227 career games for Colorado (2005-09) and Texas.
