Rangers GM Daniels gets promotion, new title
Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels has gotten a new title.
The Rangers on Friday announced that Daniels has been promoted to president of baseball operations/general manager. He says his role will remain the same.
Texas said chief operating officer Rick George also got a promotion, and will now be the team's president of business operations.
When Daniels became the Rangers' general manager in October 2005, he was the youngest GM in major league history at 28 years old. Texas has been to its only two World Series since then.
George joined the team in October 2010 in a role overseeing ballpark operations, including ticket sales. The Rangers last season drew a record attendance of more than 3.4 million people for home games, including 38 sellouts.
