Police question Cubs' 3-time All-Star Castro after nightclub shooting
Chicago Cubs All-Star shortstop Starlin Castro was questioned by authorities in the Dominican Republic and released without being charged, following a shooting at the Oceano nightclub at 3 a.m. Saturday.
Castro's agent, Paul Kinzer, said Castro was at the nightclub at the time the incident began but left through a back door as soon as he heard the commotion. Castro "had nothing to do" with the shooting, Kinzer said.
Several people were injured as a result of the shooting, according to Jacobo Mateo Moquete of the Dominican national police.
Moquete said in a tweet Saturday afternoon that Castro's house "was raided" by Dominican national police and local authorities in Monte Cristi.
Kinzer said Castro was not arrested or formally detained by authorities.
"Voluntarily, he went in and talked with them [the local authorities]," Kinzer said. "It wasn’t like he was taken in for questioning. According to him, the police have video showing he wasn't involved."
Kinzer said Castro was at his home in Monte Cristi as of Saturday afternoon. The Cubs have yet to comment on the matter. Castro is a three-time All-Star with the Cubs (2011-12, '14).
