Pirates sign coaches through 2017 season

PITTSBURGH (AP) The Pittsburgh Pirates have given their coaches new contracts through the 2017 season.

The Pirates made the announcement before Friday night's game against Cincinnati.

Ray Searage, who has been Pittsburgh's pitching coach since midway through the 2010 season, and the rest of the coaching staff got one-year boosts.

Also extended were hitting coach Jeff Branson, first base coach Nick Leyva, third base coach Rick Sofield, assistant hitting coach Jeff Livesey, bullpen coach Euclides Rojas and quality control coach Brad Fischer, as well as bullpen catcher Heberto Andrade.

''We are very pleased to maintain the continuity and quality of our major league coaching staff through at least the 2017 season,'' Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said. ''This is a group of quality, talented baseball men who make our organization better each day.''
