Pirates place reliever Stolmy Pimentel on DL
PITTSBURGH (AP) The Pirates placed reliever Stolmy Pimentel on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation, one of four roster moves Pittsburgh made Saturday.
Pittsburgh recalled reliever Jared Hughes from Indianapolis and selected the contract of reliever Vin Mazzaro from the Triple-A team. Starter Brandon Cumpton was optioned to Indianapolis.
Pimentel, a 24-year-old rookie, is 2-1 with a 3.18 ERA in six appearances for the Pirates this season. He last pitched Thursday against Baltimore, allowing a game-ending home run to Matt Wieters in the 10th inning.
His average fastball velocity this season is down 4 mph from last year's 94.7 mph, according to fangraphs.com. He had a 1.93 ERA in five appearances with Pittsburgh last year as a September callup.
