The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired right-handed reliever Sean Gallagher from San Diego on Wednesday in exchange for cash.

The Pirates, playing a three-game series in Houston, will make a corresponding roster move when Gallagher joins the team.

Gallagher (0-0) had a 5.40 ERA in 15 relief appearances for the Padres before he was designated for assignment on July 1. He had a 2.77 ERA in his last eight relief appearances with San Diego.

The 24-year-old Gallagher has a career record of 8-9 with one save and a 5.57 ERA in 60 games since he made his major league debut with the Chicago Cubs in 2007.
