Pirates 3B Kang exits with left hand injury after slide

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 6:42 p.m. ET

PITTSBURGH (AP) Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Jung Ho Kang left a game Saturday against the Colorado Rockies because of discomfort in his left hand.

Kang was apparently injured when he was thrown out sliding into home plate in the fourth inning while trying to score on Matt Joyce's grounder. Kang's hand appeared to collide with one of catcher Tony Wolters' shin guards.

Kang was activated from the disabled list May 6 after recovering from reconstructive left knee surgery that was performed last September. In 12 games, he is hitting .270 with five home runs.

David Freese replaced Kang at third base.
