Phillies pitcher Phillippe Aumont opts to become free agent
After being designated for assignment over the weekend, Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Phillippe Aumont has chosen to become a free agent, the team announced Wednesday.
Aumont was designated for assignment by the Phillies after filling in for Cole Hamels in a spot start on June 19, in which he gave up six earned runs and walked seven batters in four innings.
Aumont's spot start served as his first career start, as he was used in a relief role by the Phillies over the previous three seasons.
The 26-year-old righty holds a 1-6 record with a 6.80 ERA, 42 strikeouts, and 34 walks in 43 2/3 innings in his MLB career, all of which has been spent with the Phillies.
If Aumont would have accepted his assignment, he would have been sent to the Phillies' Triple-A affiliate again, where he had had success as a starter this year.
In 252 appearances in his minor-league career, including 39 starts, Aumont possesses a 20-36 record with a 3.92 ERA, 527 strikeouts, and 299 walks in 484 1/3 innings.
