Peavy to miss start due to soreness

White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy will miss his next minor league rehab start due to muscle tenderness and irritation in his surgically repaired right shoulder.

Peavy lasted just two-thirds of an inning, allowing three runs and four hits, in a rehab start with Double-A Birmingham on Monday night.

The right-hander returned to Chicago on Tuesday for an MRI exam, which showed no sign of major problems. Peavy will be on anti-inflammation medication for six days and won't throw until Friday.

''They told me it was good news,'' White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. ''Right now, with the news we got, I feel a little bit better.''

The discomfort is located in the posterior-lat muscle area.

Peavy could pitch again late next week in the minors.

''I wish I can say, 'We'll have this guy tomorrow or the next day, one week, two weeks, in a month,''' Guillen said. ''I've got to wait and go through the process.''
