Papelbon: 'I didn't come here for this'

Jonathan Papelbon’s patience in Philadelphia might be wearing thin.

The veteran closer, who signed a four-year $50 million contract in November 2011, vented after the Phillies lost to the Tigers 12-4, extending their skid to eight games.

"I definitely didn't come here for this," Papelbon told MLB.com.

The 32-year-old closer has had another solid season for the Phillies, tallying 20 saves with a 2.21 ERA. So what could Philadelphia do to improve its current situation?

"Oh, man, we could be here all day. It's going to take, in my opinion, a lot. And in my opinion, I think it's going to have to be something very similar to what the Red Sox went through a couple years ago. From top to bottom."

The Phillies are seven games under .500 and are 11 games behind the Braves in the NL East after Sunday’s loss.
