Pair of relievers among three players called up by Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies bypassed their top prospects and called up three players Tuesday, including a pair of relievers.
Right-hander Colton Murray and Cuban righty Dalier Hinojosa were brought up to help bolster Philadelphia's beleaguered bullpen. Veteran catcher Erik Kratz, who played three seasons for the Phillies from 2011-13, also was promoted.
Murray is the only one of the trio who has yet to play in the majors. The 25-year-old compiled a 2-2 record and a 2.79 ERA in 31 appearances at Triple-A Lehigh Valley after going 6-1 with a 2.52 ERA at Double-A Reading.
Hinojosa, 29, has made four appearances in the majors this season - three coming with Philadelphia after he was acquired on waivers from the Boston Red Sox. He has yet to allow a run and struck out five in three scoreless innings in his last appearance on Aug. 6.
Kratz signed a minor league deal with the Phillies in mid-July. He appeared in four games with Kansas City early in the season and was cut loose by the Royals, Seattle and Boston.
