MILWAUKEE (AP) The San Diego Padres placed outfielder Will Venable on paternity leave before Thursday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers and called up infielder/outfielder Alex Dickerson from Triple-A El Paso.

Venable and his wife, Kathryn, welcomed a baby girl into their family on Thursday.

The 24-year-old Dickerson was expected to arrive for his major league debut from Albuquerque, where the Chihuahuas played Wednesday night.

Dickerson was batting .306 over 102 games with 10 home runs and 59 RBIs for the Padres' Triple-A club.
