Padres 18-year-old minor leaguer making headlines
Padres minor leaguer Ruddy Giron hasn’t even been playing for a month this year and he’s already been making headlines. The 18-year-old Single A ballplayer hit his third home run in 11 games to lead the Fort Wayne TinCaps to victory on Wednesday.
Giron began his season with a whirlwind day on May 18. On little sleep -- he was woken up at 3 a.m. MST in order to catch two flights -- he went 6 for 6, including a home run, becoming just the second player in Fort Wayne history to collect six hits.
He was named Class A Midwest Player of the Week in his first week in the league. He’s currently hitting .460 in 50 at-bats.
