Boston's David Ortiz has set the major league record for RBI by a designated hitter.
Ortiz drove in a run with a groundout in the fourth inning Saturday night against Texas. That gave him 1,004 career RBI as a DH and broke the mark that had been held by Edgar Martinez.
Ortiz hit a two-run homer in second inning, matching Martinez with 1,003 RBI.
For the first time in his career, Ortiz has homered in each of the first two games of the season. He had a solo homer in the opener Friday, which was his 350th career homer.
