Orioles place Teagarden on disabled list

Published Apr. 28, 2013 4:37 p.m. ET

Baltimore Orioles catcher Taylor Teagarden has been placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, a day after dislocating his left thumb.

Teagarden started Baltimore's 7-3 win over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday but was knocked out of the game in the sixth inning when the Orioles' backup catcher was hit on the hand by a foul ball off the bat of Josh Donaldson.

Manager Buck Showalter indicated then that Teagarden would be placed on the DL.

Luis Exposito was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to replace Teagarden. Exposito went 1 for 18 in nine games with Baltimore in 2012.
