Orioles' Markakis has wrist surgery

Published Jun. 1, 2012 1:00 a.m. ET

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis has had surgery for a fractured right wrist.

The typical recovery time from this kind of surgery is three to four weeks. The operation was performed Friday by Dr. Brian Schofield in Sarasota, Fla.

Baltimore placed Markakis on the 15-day disabled list and purchased the contract of infielder-outfielder Bill Hall from Triple-A Norfolk.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Hall, second baseman Brian Roberts was transferred from the 15- to the 60-day disabled list.

Roberts, coming back from concussion symptoms, is on a minor league rehab assignment with Double-A Bowie. The Orioles said Roberts will join Norfolk for an eight-game road trip on Tuesday.
