ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) Baltimore has beaten outfielder Alejandro de Aza in salary arbitration.

De Aza was awarded the Orioles' $5 million offer rather than his $5.65 million request on Saturday by James Oldham, Robert Herzog and Phillip LaPorte, who heard the case a day earlier.

De Aza hit .252 with eight homers and 41 RBIs last year for the Chicago White Sox and Orioles, who obtained him on Aug. 30 for a pair of minor leaguers. He made $4.25 million.
