Opener of Rays-Red Sox series postponed by rain
The game between the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox on Friday night has been postponed by rain.
The opener of the four-game series was called off after rain began in the afternoon. The wet weather was expected to continue for most of the day, with temperatures in the 30s and 20 mph winds.
The game was rescheduled as part of a day-night doubleheader June 18.
Felix Doubront, who was scheduled to start for Boston on Friday, probably will start on Tuesday against the Indians in Cleveland. Manager John Farrell left the rotation for the rest of the series with the Rays intact with Jon Lester starting on Saturday followed by Clay Buchholz and Ryan Dempster.
For Tampa Bay, Alex Cobb, who was scheduled to start on Friday, was pushed back to Sunday. David Price will still start on Saturday as planned. Jeremy Hellickson is expected to start on Monday.
