Noah Syndergaard posts tweet about Mets 2016 season

New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard took to Twitter to throw  a little shade on 2016.

The New York Mets didn’t have a “horrible” 2016 by a lot of standards. But starter Noah Syndergaard posted a tweet on Wednesday afternoon, and he wasn’t as thrilled about the season as a whole.

They finished 87-75, which was good enough for a second place finish in the NL East, and a Wild Card trip to the playoffs. They had a lot of expectations going into the 2016 regular season, after getting ousted by the Kansas City Royals in the World Series a few months earlier.

Syndergaard pointed out the roster of injuries that plagued the team, and the departure of a fellow pitcher. They started the year off cruising, until Lucas Duda and David Wright fell to back and neck injuries. The breakdown of injuries continued, but the team still managed to pull off a winning season.

Syndergaard himself had a decent season. He posted a 14-9 record,  and a 2.60 ERA. He had a few scattered rough outings, but never really got into a bad slump. He added 218 strikeouts over 183 innings in 2016 and earned a trip to the All-Star Game.

However, as Dayn Perry from CBS Sports so eloquently put it in his take on Thor’s dropping of the Twitter hammer, things will always get worse. We’re still a week away from ringing in the new year, so it may not be a bad idea to wait util 2017 officially unveils before throwing too much shade on this year.

Speaking of 2017, the Mets regular season will kick off Monday, April 3 as they host the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field. And for you hardcore baseball nuts, players will start reporting to Spring Training camps on February 12. Perfect time for Syndergaard and company to start fresh.
